Peer Theatre Educators

(PTEs) are a group of outgoing youth volunteers that play a very important role in the dissemination of information related to healthy living and in YOHO’s program implementation. PTEs are the main life skills facilitators for in school and out of school youth across the country. They are actively involved in researching the needs of various communities, as it relates to Sexual and Reproductive Health, since they can easily relate to their peers and to the challenges that young people are currently facing.

Based on these needs, life skills sessions are devised and, in addition, theatre plays are developed by the PTEs that cater to the specific issues brought forth in their research. These plays are then performed during road shows or other community events in order to entertain, educate and empower young people everywhere. PTEs are also actively involved in leading Seboza Clubs, youth groups that facilitate discussion between youth about issues of Sexual and Reproductive Health.

These volunteer positions usually last for a time period of one (1) year and give successful applicants the opportunity to be trained in life skills sessions and to gain knowledge of various health issues, such as HIV/AIDS. Most PTEs enjoy not only gaining this valuable skill set for themselves, but are also able to take on a mentorship role with other youth in their communities, making them important in the empowerment of all youth moving towards a more healthy lifestyle.

Hello!
My name is Teko Rice and I am a young male of 34. I have been working with YOHO as a PTE, Peer Theatre Educator, for two years now and enjoy working with youth. My role at YOHO allows me to learn more about how we can address the issues of HIV/AIDS in Botswana and how to motivate behavioural changes among youth. I look forward to working with you.

Oladede...Oladeeeee.....
Hi my name is Mandla Pule (A.K.A Rragwe Veritas) and I am currently the producer and presenter for the liveliest youth radio program - Seboza Talk - on Yarona FM. The show airs every Saturday from 4pm- 4:30pm and discusses issues that are sometimes difficult to bring up with your parents, partner or friends. I enjoy working at YOHO because it allows me the opportunity to develop and encourage healthy lifestyles among my peers.

Dumella Friends!
My name is Portia Kemoabe and I am 20 years old. I have been working as a Peer Theatre Educator with YOHO for almost two years. The most exciting part about being a PTE is getting to develop and act in theatre productions that will help educate the youth of Botswana on health issues.
